Our Programs
The DC FIlm Alliance is proud to produce the following programs. Click on their links for more information.
DC Shorts Film Festival
DC Shorts turns the spotlight on truly independent short films from all over the globe, created by new and established filmmakers in an era when the art of filmmaking is opening to all. We select films from every genre for our competition screenings—with a special focus on films created by metropolitan Washington, DC-based directors and writers. After each screening, filmmakers have the opportunity to speak to the audience as part of a moderated panel.
DC Film Salon
The DC Film Salon is a quarterly gathering for filmmakers to meet in an intimate and relaxed setting. The purpose is to discuss current projects, screen dailies and works in progress, exchange resources, and meet and make friends with others either in the industry, or those just starting out. The group will focus on the craft of filmmaking, and act as a resource exchange. The DC Film Salon is not your typical “meet and greet”.
DC Film Alliance Community Meetings
Four times a year, the DC Film Alliance hosts a meeting with local film groups, festivals, presenters and filmmakers to exchange resources, and plan for the future of the region’s film community. Minutes of these meetings are posted in the Resources section of our website.
These community meetings have led to subcommittees that meet monthly: The Film Festival Forum for area festivals, and a Government Advocacy Group which helps organizations and individuals to understand the inner workings of the local and Federal governments’ policies, grant requirements, and pending legislation.
Central Calendar
The DC Film Salon is in the process of building a large web-based software solution which will offer individuals and organizations a central repository of information, calendar items, resources and information exchange. Until this software is completed, we have created the Central Calendar on this site. The calendar is open to all to post events.
Sponsorships — National Museum of Women in the Arts
From September 25–30, 2007 the National Museum of Women in the Arts (NMWA) will hold its inaugural Festival of Film & Media Arts. The festival will feature more than 190 films, videos, and installations — from more than 40 countries and all 7 continents - covering the most artistically innovative and socially relevant work made by women and transgendered artists today. Veteran filmmakers such as Monika Treut, Abigail Child and Barbara Hammer will join emerging talents like Grace Lee, Lilli Carré, Shay Sellars and Zulma Aquiar in this 6 day celebration of moving images. Screenings, discussions, parties, panels and receptions will take place throughout the museum, as well as an exciting selection of installation work, which will remain on display through out the week.
